Brenda Hawkins founded SpeakAbility, Inc. in September 1996 in her home in Mooresville. She wanted to create a practice that offered excellent speech services to clients, served and supported the greater community, and compensated our Speech-Language Pathologists at the highest levels possible.

Brenda has a B.A. in Speech Correction from Greensboro College and a Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology from South Carolina State College. She is an active practicing speech pathologist with over 25 years of experience in clinic, school, hospital, and home settings.

Brenda is a member of the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA) with a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Speech Pathology, a member of the North Carolina Speech-Language and Hearing Association, and licensed by the NC Board of Examiners in Speech-Language Pathology. She lives in Mooresville with her husband Rich.

Frances Gregory Robbins, Brenda’s daughter, has been with SpeakAbility, Inc. since 2004, first as Vice President and then as CEO since 2018.

She first worked to grow SpeakAbility’s client base and take it into new areas. Most recently, she has worked to keep SpeakAbility going, and its staff and contractors supported during the pandemic. Throughout it all, she has tried to remain true to Brenda’s founding principles.

Frances has a B.A. in Sociology from Clemson University and a J.D. from Wake Forest University School of Law. She lives in Mooresville with her husband, two children, two dogs, and their cat, Pumpkin.
